Louisiana Metalsmiths Association

LAMA is dedicated to sharing and perpetuating the knowledge and skills of metalsmithing.

In particular, blacksmithing is a building block craft of our organization and as such, we strive to educate and share as much as possible with the membership and community about this wonderful and ancient art.

Changing the world is possible. We’ve done it before.

The Louisiana Metalsmiths Association is a non-profit, educational corporation.  LAMA is formed under Sec. 501(c)3, and is an affiliate of the Artist Blacksmiths Association of North America (ABANA).

Ready to take the next step?

Our meetings are held typically the second Saturday of each month. We  are fortunate in that we have LAMA members that offer the use of their shops for meeting and educational events.  As such, please check out the meeting schedule and location notice on this site.

Let’s get it done!

These meetings are not only a great venue for learning and sharing skills and techniques, but we also have a great pot luck meal provided at each event by the host shop. We offset the expense for these luncheons with “Iron in the Hat”, where donated items are raffled off at a $1 a ticket.  This is usually very entertaining, but also can provide a great way for members to add to their metal supply collection and tool box.

Being a member of LAMA has not only improved my forging skills significantly, but I have also found a community of great people to share the experience with.
